It was well before dawn when the 2013th Clow Stamping Company Health Fair opened services to employees on November 20th. A dozen vendors set up tables on the perimeters of the large lunchroom at the wee hour of 5:30, making themselves available to employees arriving for First Shift and those leaving Third. Many of these vendors work with Clow year round, assisting employees with health and dental insurance, retirement planning and other needs. Our long time partners from Fiducia, Wells Fargo Advisors, Hanratty, Perferred One, Deerwood Bank, and Weizenegger Engel Insurance were all present and available to answer questions. New vendors on the block were Frandsen Bank and Trust, The Mosquito Squad, and Dr Fizz and his astounding PEMF machine.

Anytime Fitness of Brainerd and Baxter visited us again and Guide Point Pharmacies had several staff members assisting employees with health screenings
GuidePoint Pharmacy conducts health screening on Clow Employees. Tests included blood pressure, body fat analysis, cholesterol, and glucose.
All our vendors, as well as CSC, donated great prizes to be given away in drawings to those who attended. Gifts ranged from IPods to coolers to Visa and gas cards. Very cleverly, our HSA account provider, Deerwood Bank, gave away free samples of crisp new $1 bills ! Healthy treats and coffee (as well as an early morning stash of donuts!) were provided for employees throughout the day and Rafferty’s Pizza had slices available at the lunch hour. The fair would remain open until 3:30 pm, giving all shifts a chance to come and browse.
Several years ago Twyla Flaws and Robin Loftis of Human Resources started our first CSC Health Fair, coinciding the fair with health insurance renewals. Flaws states that her intention in beginning the fair was to help employees understand their health benefits and to help them equate healthy life choices with overall health improvement. Over the years, we have tried different venues, different schedules, and different times of the year. This year we simplified the schedule for vendors and located the fair in the lunchroom to allow easy access to employees. It was by far our best-attended fair to date.
As health care costs continue to rise throughout the country, investing in employees’ health and fitness is good business. In addition to hosting the health fair, CSC operates a fitness center for employees next to the plant. Gladyce MacLeod Clow, one of the original founders of Clow Stamping Company, seeded the center with her donation of equipment for its opening in 2010. The Founder’s Fitness Center is easily accessible to its employee membership and boasts a variety of cardio and weight-training equipment.
